Werewolves, also known as werewolves of λυκάνθρωπος Greek λύκος (wolf) and άνθρωπος (Human, man), are mythological or folkloric humans with the ability to shapeshift into wolves or wolf anthropomorphic creatures, either purposely, having been bitten by another werewolf or after being placed under a curse. This transformation is often associated with the appearance of the full moon, as popularly have pointed to the medieval Gervase of Tilbury, chronicler, although it may have been recognized in the past among the ancient Greeks through the writings of Petronius. Men Wolf often granted extra-human strength and senses, far beyond the wolves or men. The werewolf is generally celebrated as a European, although diffusion through the tradition of the world in recent times. Change shape, similar to werewolves, are common in stories from around the world, especially among American Indians, although most of them involve animal forms other than wolves. Werewolves are a frequent subject of modern fiction, although men fictitious wolf traits have been attributed different from those of original folklore, especially the vulnerability to silver bullets. Werewolves are still suffering in modern culture and fiction books, films and television programs to consolidate the position of the werewolf as a dominant figure in horror. The word werewolf is believed to come from Old English wer (or were) and Wulf. The first part, wer, translates as "man" (in the sense of male human, the race of humanity). It has cognates in several Germanic languages WAIR as Gothic, Old High German wer and Old Norse verr, as well as in other Indo-European languages, such as "turns" in Sanskrit, Latin vir, Irish fear, Lithuanian vyras, Spanish and virile male, GWR and Welsh who have the same meaning. The second half, Wulf, is the ancestor of modern English "Wolf", and in some cases, also had the general meaning of "the beast". An alternative etymology derives the first part of English Old weri (wear), the full form, in this case would be glossed as wearer of wolf skin. Vampires are mythological or folkloric appeared to subsist the blood of the living. In folk tales, the undead vampires often visited loved ones and caused damage or deaths in the neighborhoods where they lived when were alive. They wore shrouds and were often described as bloated and of ruddy or dark countenance, very different from today's gaunt, pale vampire which dates from the early nineteenth century. Although vampiric entities have been recorded in most cultures, the term vampire was not popularized until the early 18 after the arrival of vampire superstition into Western Europe from areas where vampire legends were frequent, such as the Balkans and Eastern Europe, although local variants also were known by different names such as Vampire (вампир) in Serbia, Greece and strigoi vrykolakas in Romania. This increase in the level of superstition Vampire in Europe that led to mass hysteria and in some cases resulted in corpses actually being staked and people being accused of vampirism. In modern times, however, the vampire is generally regarded as a fictitious entity, although belief in similar vampiric creatures such as the chupacabra still persists in some cultures. Early folk belief in vampires has been ascribed to ignorance of the processes of body decomposition after death and how people in pre-industrial societies tried to rationalize this, the creation of the figure of the vampire to explain the mysteries of death. Porphyria was also linked with legends vampirism in 1985 and received media exposure, but this link has since been discredited in many ways. The English term is derived from (possibly through French vampire) from German Vampir, in turn thought to derive from the early 18th century in Serbia.
